Lonely

One of the things that a church can provide is community.  When it does there is nothing better.  When it does not then it can be lonely.  But even then at least there is an appearance of community.  Attending church with familiar faces gives a sense of comfort.

We lost real community at our last church.  That's one of the reasons we left.  It was painful to realize, but it was the honest truth.  But now that we've been gone over a month the loneliness is sinking in.

Work has been very tough this week.  I went for a walk this afternoon during work and really wanted to talk with someone and realized that there's no one to call, and there's no one to look forward to running in to on Sunday.  The loneliness is really sinking in.

Leaving was the right thing to do, but I'm VERY ready to find a new home and a new group of friends.

Man I can definitely relate to you on the loneliness feelings. I was raised in the SBC and recently moved and am now finding myself moving away from the baptist way of life and into something different. Right now I'm in an efca church and am considering the PCA. It's tough trying to work through this whole baptism thing. Anyways, with that said it's been really lonely in my new church trying to find community. I thought it would be easier than this.

The book of Acts paints such a wonderful picture of Christian community; the peer pressure was to see who could give the most to care for the poor. Wow!

Then again, Paul describes the problems in Christian community where the rich were looking down on the poor, and the Jewish Christians always had problems accepting the Gentiles. Fortunately in our country God has provided thousands of churches and He has provided a place for us to worship in community.

Both the EFCA and PCA are denominations with great churches. Now that I have worked through the infant baptism thing, I find it beautiful and don't want to go back theologically. It's a tough one to work through, but I think it illustrates how God works much better than adult only baptism. If you have some contemporary PCA churches in your area, you should give them a try.

I trust God will guide you to a place of community, as he will us.
